Hope you had a lovely weekend?
well, you’re probably wondering what the hell I put up there. I say “Be Selfish”
We all know being selfish is a bad thing. In fact, we were thought to always put others into consideration. But have you ever thought how much it takes from you when you always do that.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t help people. Even I am an advocate of helping those in need; but how do you help others when you have not helped yourself. It’s like when the Bible says “love your neighbor as you would love yourself”. You can’t love other people if you don’t love yourself. Remember, you can’t give what you don’t have.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to be selfless but never give help when you know you’ll get in trouble for it, because sometimes you and the person you’re trying to help can end up worse. It’s as simple as removing the log of wood in your eyes to remove the speck of dust in your neighbour’s eye. So when I say you should be selfish I mean, you should help yourself to be positioned in a good place for you to help others.
I know it might sound confusing to some but it’s the truth about life. Helping other people without improving yourself will put you at a disadvantage. It’s like being a teacher who refuses to study ahead of a class and then, a student asks a question but you’re unable to answer. You have put yourself at a disadvantage while affecting your student’s learning negatively. Giving up so much to help others out can take so much out of you and at some point, you need to get recharged, else, you’ll become resentful.
